The Unplanned Symphony: Crafting a Blues Album at Fame Studios

In the heart of Muscle Shoals, where legends like Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett once recorded, a journey unfolded. Doug Aldrich and The Dead Daisies found themselves at Fame Studios, not with a grand plan, but with an open view to creativity. What began as a series of impromptu sessions turned into a heartfelt blues album, capturing the essence of spontaneity and musical exploration.

Doug joined me on the recent show to talk about the album and how it came into being plus we touched on more personal aspects including his diagnosis for cancer last year and also we went back to the era it all began for Doug back in teh 80's when a band called "Lion" briefly gained notoriety.

Fame Studios, with its rich history and 50s-60s vibe, became the perfect backdrop for this creative endeavor. As Doug described, stepping into the studio was like entering a new dimension, where the walls echoed with the sounds of past greats. This environment inspired the band to let go and open up to the creative process, allowing the music to flow naturally.

The album was born out of late-night sessions, where the band would take breaks to absorb the studio's history through tours. These stories of musical legends fueled their creativity, leading to a collection of tracks that were both a tribute and a reinvention of classic blues. Songs like "Crossroads" and "Black Betty" were reimagined with a fresh perspective, blending influences from Led Zeppelin and Southern rock.

The band, including the talented Sarah Tommie, brought a unique blend of skills to the project. Sarah's versatile drumming added a funky blues groove to tracks like "Black Betty," while Michael Devin's melodic bass lines and harmonica playing enriched the album's sound. Together, they crafted a record that was raw, live, and from the heart.

: This blues album, a "happy accident" as John Corabi called it, stands as a testament to the power of creativity without constraints. It reminds us that sometimes the best art comes from unexpected places, where the only plan is to let the music lead the way. As Doug reflects, the journey at Fame Studios was not just about recording an album, but about embracing the moment and the magic of music.

Charting New Horizons: The Future of The Dead Daisies

In the ever-evolving world of music, staying fresh and innovative is key. For our band, this means embracing new experiences and drawing inspiration from unexpected places. Recently, we found ourselves at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, a place steeped in musical history, where our latest album was born out of spontaneous creativity and a love for the blues though none of us were really "aficionado's"

Our journey at Fame Studios was an opportune one one. Initially, we didn't set out to create a blues album, but the environment and its rich history inspired us to explore this genre. As Douglas Aldrich shared, "It was like walking into a new dimension," and this setting allowed us to channel the spirit of legendary artists who had recorded there before us.

The band's dynamic has always been about collaboration and experimentation. With the addition of talented musicians like Sarah Tommie, who brought her unique groove to tracks like "Black Betty," we found new ways to reinterpret classic songs. This collaborative spirit is something we plan to carry forward as we continue to evolve.

Looking ahead, we're excited about the possibility of focusing more on the blues, both in our recordings and live performances. As Dougl mentioned, "I could definitely see it having an impact on the future of the band." We aim to celebrate the blues by collaborating with other artists and perhaps even embarking on a tour dedicated to this genre.

: While the future is always uncertain, one thing remains clear: our passion for music and our commitment to creating authentic, heartfelt work. As we continue to write and perform, we invite our fans to join us on this journey, celebrating the past while embracing the new. Embracing Life: A Journey Through Health Challenges and Triumph

In the midst of life's unpredictable journey, we often find ourselves facing challenges that test our resilience and strength. For Doug Aldrich, a renowned musician, this journey took an unexpected turn when he discovered a lump on his neck just before a major tour. This is a story of courage, determination, and the power of community support.

Douglas's journey began with a simple discovery while shaving—a lump that would soon be diagnosed as HPV 16 square cell cancer. Despite the initial fear and uncertainty, Douglas took the sensible step of getting it checked out, a decision that would prove to be life-saving. "You don't know how strong you are until being strong is the only option you've got," he reflects, embodying the spirit of resilience.

The Power of Support. Throughout his treatment, Douglas found strength in the support of his family and the music community. Messages of encouragement from fans and fellow musicians, including Paul Stanley, poured in, providing a beacon of hope during challenging times. This outpouring of love and prayers made a significant impact, reinforcing the importance of community in overcoming adversity.

Emerging from this experience, Douglas's outlook on life has transformed. Prioritizing family and cherishing every moment has become his mantra. "Enjoy every moment while you got it," he advises, a reminder of the preciousness of life and the importance of living fully.

Douglas's journey is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome challenges and emerge stronger. His story inspires us to face our own battles with courage and to lean on the support of those around us. As Douglas continues to create music and share his story, he reminds us all of the power of resilience and the beauty of life.

Lastly we looked back to the 1980's when Doug was just starting out on the road to rock stardom the band were called "Lion" these days when retrospectives of the era are

published "Lion" were one of the bands that no-one knows why but they somehow just missed the big time.
